A game missing in the list is Total War series.
Personally - i have extensively played Empire : Total War and Napoleon Total War.
Just bought the new Total War: Rome II
I love the concept - realistic combat - use of terrain - battalion sized troops you need to manage as one...
The way your strategy can decide you can get a massive defeat or a spectacular win.
Gonna delve myself into this the next few days :-)

From DDO to AOC to SWTOR to LOTRO to ESO all characters have started with the name Shoe. It all goes back to trying to decide on a character name in my first MMO. Having a shoebox near me and frustrated on my lack of creativity I typed it in and sure enough it worked, and the legacy was born.

Having a blast...
Still doing the tutorial and learning this game a little.
Already had some epic battles there.
Made the mistake of not resting after i was fighting off a large invasion force. With decimated troops i invaded their province (which was my next assignment). Also good to know is that i had neglected to build any catapult / siege weapons.
When i attacked that province - i was vastly outnumbered - some cohorts were at 50% strenght - some at 80% - the rest in between...
instead of simply reloading i gave it a shot. And won. Not losing one cohort in the process either (very close call several times).
This promises to be an interesting game that i will enjoy for a long time to come.
there is a multiplay as well - might try that later on once i am up to speed.
